English Translation
When the wind rages and the rain pours down, even the **rds and ani**ls are caught in tragedy. *ut when the sun comes out shining and the wind turns mild, the very grasses and trees are all immersed in delightfulness. Thus it can *e seen that in Nature — not a single **y could pass peacefully if celestial and terrestrial forces fail to go in harmony; and in the world of men — not a single **y could *e spent well if people are deprived of happy mood.
七、真味是淡 至人如常
7. Genuine fl**or only lies in light and mild food; and a **n of perfect morality is no different from ordinary people.
醲肥辛甘①非真味，真味只是淡；神奇卓异②非至人③，至人只是常。
注 释
① 醲肥辛甘：泛指丰盛的酒菜。
② 神奇卓异：标新立异，与众不同。
③ 至人：修为和学识达到最高境界的人。俗称高人。
今文解译
美酒佳肴并不是真正的美味，真正的美味是清淡甘平。
标新立异并不是高人的作为，高人的作为与常人无异。
English Translation
Genuine fl**or is derived not from good wine and delicious food, *ut from that which tastes light and mild.
The **n of perfect morality is not such a one who is peculiar in action, *ut the one who is similar to ordinary people.
八、闲时吃紧 忙时悠闲
8. Keep the sense of imminence while at leisure and while *usy, *e at ease.
天地寂然不动，而气机①无息稍停；日月昼夜奔驰，而贞明②万古不易。故君子闲时要有吃紧的心思③，忙处要有悠闲的趣味。

① 气机：指天地有规律的内部运动。
② 贞明：谓日月能固守其运行规律而常明。
③ 心思：此处指精神或意识。
今文解译
天地表面上看似平静，但其内部有规律的运动却一刻不曾停歇；日月不分白昼黑夜地运转着，然而它们的光芒却万古未变。同理，君子闲暇时精神上不能放松自己，忙碌时则要有一点闲情逸致。
English Translation
